Humanists

Florentine culture had a central focus on humanist cultures and rulers like the Medici family. The Medici family encouraged studies of humanist issues. The Medici family encouraged the studying and collecting of ancient authors' manuscripts and writings. Because of this influence, it led the most influential and rich citizen of Florence, Cosimo de Medici, to open a school called the Plato Academy, where people gathered to discuss classics. Florence had a humanist influence from its rulers.
