Geography :

Mediterranean Sea
A sea is a body of saltwater that covers a vast majority of the earth's surface, but is not as large as an ocean. The Mediterranean Sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean through a strait which is a varying-in-size, narrow passage that connects two bodies of water together. This sea covers over about 2.5 million square kilometers, or 950,000 square miles. Because there are many islands and peninsulas, like the Italian Peninsula, it is divided into several parts. Besides the Italian Peninsula, the Iberian Peninsula and the Balkans Peninsula also connect to the Mediterranean Sea. The economy in Italy and many other places are dependent on the Mediterranean Sea for fishing and their growth of wine. The Mediterranean Sea stretches from a depth of 1,500 feet to 5,000 feet below sea level. The Po River, which flows through the Italian Peninsula, empties into the Mediterranean Sea along with other major rivers such as the Nile River, the Ebro River, and the Rhone River.

Tuscany
Tuscany is located in Central Italy and its region's capital is Florence.Tuscany is geographically surrounded by many physical features such as hills and mountains. Around Tuscany, there is a lot of fertile soil that supports many agricultural needs and smaller economic problems that involve the use of soil for farming. The Apennine Mountains are located near northern and eastern Tuscany. The Arno River flows through the region of Tuscany. Artisans in Tuscany and in Florence happen to be well known for their work, but Tuscany also happens to have good industry such as tourism. To the south of Tuscany is the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The Ionian Sea lies to the east and south of Tuscany and the Adriatic Sea lies to the east of Tuscany where the Apennine Mountains are positioned near. Cities such as Pisa, Pistoia, Cecina, and Follonica are located in the region of Tuscany.

Government (in Florence, Italy)

A government is a the political direction and the authority that has control over actions of a person or a society of a country. Before the Early Renaissance, which began in the 15th century, Florence was governed as a commune. A commune is where a group of inhabitants live and share possessions with each another in an area. During the time of the Renaissance, Florence obtained their own from of government and way of living because the country of Italy was broken up into smaller sections called city-states. Other city-states in Italy were Milan and Florence who also evolved around their own form of government. Florence's government projected and guaranteed freedom and liberty where their own citizens had the ability to participate in making decisions, which was the process of approaching democracy, but because the new laws were overruled, Florence reverted back to a government where they were controlled by a small amount of people.
